Custom Arrangements and Orchestrations

Arrangements and orchestrations receive the same attention to detail and creative energy that original commissions receive. Stephen's arrangements and orchestrations have been performed by orchestras, bands, and choirs in Florida, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, including organizations such as the Imperial Symphony (Lakeland, FL), the Sarasota Ballet (Sarasota, FL), and the Three Rivers Choral Society (Pittsbugh, PA). Stephen is also a frequent contributor to the choral music ministry at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Tampa, FL, where he arranges works for strings, brass, and contemporary groups for special worship services at Christmas and Easter. He has also arranged works for high school marching bands in Florida and Pennsylvania.

Copyright permissions are the sole responsibility of the performing organization; however, obtaining permission for your organization can be included in the arrangement package for an additional fee (this is in addition to any fees the publisher may charge).

Do you have to obtain permission to make an arrangement of a copyrighted work? YES! Read the following information from the Music Publisher's Association:

Arrangements and Transcriptions

If you would like to secure permission yourself, you can download the MPA's "Request for Permission to Arrange" form, or use their online permission form, by clicking here. Written proof of permission to make an arrangement (or proof that a work is in the public domain) must be provided before work on an arrangement begins.

RATE

FLAT RATE: $0.75 per measure per instrument used

All measures count in computing the flat rate, not just the measures with notes entered in them (good orchestration is just as much about who is not playing as it is about who is playing).

The fee covers all costs, including part extraction and formatting. You receive:

The flat rate assumes a reasonable amount of time (several months) to craft the arrangement. If a rush order is needed (weeks instead of months), it will be billed at 1.5 times the flat rate.

Payment: Send an email to sbarr_music@earthlink.net to provide information about your project and receive an estimate. If you provide precise information about the requested arrangement (number of measures, number of instruments, etc.), the quote you receive will also be precise. If you have only basic specifications such as time length and tempo, the estimate given will be exactly that: an estimate.

Typically, half of the fee is paid up front, before any work begins. The remainder is paid when you receive and approve the proofs.

Educational & Theological Discount: Students, teachers, and theological musicians receive a 20% discount on arrangements.
